We’re currently synthesizing existing conditions findings and your feedback, and are developing draft recommendations with our agency partners and Advisory Committee. Stay tuned for a public meeting on draft recommendations in September!

Public Kick-Off
OP and DDOT hosted their kick-off meeting on 4/27 at 10:00 am at the Community Academy Charter School at 1st and P Streets, NW. At the kick-off meeting, OP and DDOT provided information about the planning process and asked for initial input. The meeting format included several activities, including a visioning exercise led by a graphic recorder, a stormwater science station, facilitated topic-area stations, and transportation BINGO. The kick-off also included a series of Walking/Listening Tours on 4/26 and 4/27. Office Hours were held at various locations in the study area from 4/29 to 5/3. More than 80 residents attended kick-off events!

Existing Conditions and Goals
OP and DDOT hosted engagement activities in June, including a mobile transportation workshop that rotated throughout the study area, and focus area meetings in Bates/Truxton Circle, Hanover, Sursum Corda Area, Eckington, Bloomingdale, and LeDroit Park.
The purpose of these activities was to:
- Share information about the planning process and how to be involved.
- Confirm vision and goals for Mid City East.
- Present and validate existing conditions with the community –including pedestrian connections, parks and recreation, revitalization, historic and urban design.
- Brainstorm near term transportation improvement on the neighborhood streets of Mid City East to provide safe pedestrian and bicycle access to transit and community amenities; reduce cut-through traffic and speeding on local neighborhood streets; and enhance landscaping to minimize stormwater runoff.
